High frequency of alternative first exons in erythroid genes suggests a critical role in regulating gene function
Blood Tan et al. 107: 2557

Supplemental materials for: Tan et al

Files in this Data Supplement:

  • Figure S1. Erythroid genes with ‘conventional’ complexity at the 5´ end (PDF, 27.3 KB) - Shown here are detailed renditions of all the erythroid genes from this study with alternative first exons (except for ACHE,9 AE1,12 ANK1,10 GATA-1,13 protein 4.1R,7 and UROS,8 for which similar figures have been published in previous studies). Here, we show the 5´ terminus of the genes, with alternative first exons coded in color, while the shared exons are in black. Promoter sites, based on searches using PROSCAN 1.7, are shown (if known) in color matching their respective first exons (promoter scans of a few transcripts yielded more than one putative promoter; these multiple candidates are shown in dashed arrows of corresponding color). Where applicable, the accession IDs of transcripts with alternative first exons are listed on the right. Genes are not drawn to scale with respect to each other, but individually the exons, as well as the predicted promoters, are depicted in proportion.
