Freshly harvested rat BM cells were cultured in RPMI-1640 containing 2-ME in the presence of 10 ng/ml of rIL-7 or 30 ng/ml of rIL-7/HGF or both. Nonherent cells were harvested at day 14 and analyzed by flow cytometry. (Left) The B220+ population was subdivided into CD43+ (pre-pro-B and pro-B) and CD43— (pre-B/immature B) cell populations. (Right) The B220+ CD43+ population was further divided into HSA— (pre-pro-B) and HSA+ (pro-B) cell subsets. The proportions of cells in each of these fractions are indicated.
