The results of thorough investigations conducted by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and by Blood into the case of a duplicate publication without attribution of Figure 4B in the prepublished First Edition paper by Tai et al indicate that this was an unintended error by the first author.
Tai et al and Blood apologize to Dr. Shuji Ozaki and co-workers for the inadvertent re-publication of their figure 4, published in Blood in 1999 (Ozaki S, Kosaka M, Wakahara Y, Ozaki Y, Tsuchiya M, Koishihara Y, Goto T, and Matsumoto T. Humanized anti-HM1.24 antibody mediates myeloma cell cytotoxicity that is enhanced by cytokine stimulation of effector cells. Blood 93 (11): 3922-3930, 1999).
The final online and print version of this article contains the new Figure 4B, representing the actual image obtained by Tai et al. that was intended to be published. Hence, the First Edition version differs in this regard from the final version of record.
