Blood, Vol. 95 No. 9 (May 1), 2000:
pp. 2753-2753
ERRATUM
In
the article by Tournamille et al entitled "Arg89Cys substitution
results in very low membrane expression of the Duffy antigen/receptor for chemokines in Fyx individuals," which
appeared in the September 15, 1998, issue of Blood (Vol 92:
2147-2156), a correction should be noted. According to the sequence
published in Genbank (accession number AFO55992), nucleotide 319 in the
FY*X
allele is an adenine and not a guanine. Hence, on p 2150, the sentence
beginning "It is noteworthy" should begin "It is noteworthy
that all Fybweak cDNA clones carried an A at nucleotide 319 ...". Figure 3 also needs a correction and is printed below in
its entirety.

Figure 3. Schematic comparative
structure of the DARC cDNAs isolated from whole blood of Fy(a
b+)
and Fy(a
bweak) donors. The full-length major
isoform (spliced) of the FY transcripts was isolated by RT-PCR. The
nucleotide sequences of Fy(a
b+) and Fy(a
bweak) cDNA
clones were identical, except for the C286T substitution (+1 taken as
the erythroid cap site) resulting in the Arg89Cys polymorphism on the
DARC protein. A was found at nucleotide position 319 in all clones from
four unrelated Fy(a
bweak) donors, whereas G or A,
resulting in an Ala100Thr amino acid change, could be found in the
FY*B allele from Fy(a+b+) and Fy(a
b+) donors. The nucleotide
residue found at the Fya/Fyb-associated
polymorphic position (G146A) is indicated.
