About the Cover for Blood 111 (6)
Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) photograph showing Pseudomonas aeruginosa micro-organisms caught in extracellular traps released by mast cells. Samples were aldehyde fixed, ethanol dehydrated, critical-point dried, and sputter coated with gold. Analysis was conducted with a Zeiss DSM982 Gemini field-emission scanning electron microscope and Zeiss DSM982 2.3 software (Zeiss, Oberkochen, Germany). Image acquisition was performed using the in-lens SE detector and an Everhart-Thornley SE detector in a 50:50 ratio at an acceleration voltage of 5 kV. The black and white image was recorded onto MO-disk, imported into Adobe Photoshop 9.0 (Adobe Systems, San Jose, CA), corrected for contrast and brightness, converted into an RGB image, and subsequently colorized. See the related article by von Kockritz-Blickwede et al, beginning on page 3070. [Table of Contents] |
