FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEBlood Cited as One of the Top 100 Influential Biology and Medicine Journals(WASHINGTON, March 31, 2009) - Blood, the official journal of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), has been selected by the Special Libraries Association (SLA) as one of the top 100 most influential research journals of biology and medicine over the past 100 years. “I am pleased but not surprised that Blood has received this recognition and is included in this cohort of prestigious journals,” said Cynthia Dunbar, MD, Blood Editor-in-Chief. This year, SLA is commemorating its centennial anniversary, and as part of the celebration its BioMedical & Life Sciences Division polled the SLA’s 668 members to identify journals that have had the greatest impact in the areas of biology, medicine, and natural history. Blood was voted by SLA members to be one of the top 100 journals. Awards for the top 10 journals, including the single most influential “Journal of the Centennial,” will be announced at the annual business luncheon of the BioMedical & Life Sciences Division in June. The full list of selected journals is available on the home page of SLA’s BioMedical & Life Sciences Division Web site. For more information contact Patrick C. Irelan at 202-776-0544 or pirelan{at}hematology.org. The American Society of Hematology (www.hematology.org) is the world’s largest professional society concerned with the causes and treatment of blood disorders. Its mission is to further the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting blood, bone marrow, and the immunologic, hemostatic, and vascular systems, by promoting research, clinical care, education, training, and advocacy in hematology. In September 2008, ASH launched Blood: The Vital Connection (www.bloodthevitalconnection.org), a credible online resource addressing bleeding and clotting disorders, anemia, and cancer. It provides hematologist-approved information about these common blood conditions including risk factors, preventive measures, and treatment options. Blood, the official journal of ASH, is the most cited peer-reviewed publication in the field. Blood is issued to Society members and other subscribers weekly and is available in print and online at www.bloodjournal.org. |
