More About Blood's First Edition Papers

All original research manuscripts accepted through Blood Bench>Press and submitted for Blood First Edition by the author
are prepublished online daily in unedited form (author's PDF). Please note that Controversies in Hematology, Letters to the Editor,
Inside Blood comments, Editorials, and Introductions to specially featured articles are not prepublished as First Edition articles.
First Edition articles are searchable in Medline, Google Scholar, Yahoo, and other search engines; they are citable and establish publication priority. Once an article is prepublished in Frist Edition, the press embargo no longer applies. Accepted Data Supplements are also prepublished with the First Edition version of the article.
Publication information, including the date, appears on the prepublished PDF, the prepublished abstract, and the search result citation listing, as shown here with sample date and sample Digital Object Identifier (DOI):
Blood First Edition Paper, prepublished online June 15, 2002; DOI 10.1182/blood-2001-12-1234.
Once a paper is prepublished as a First Edition Paper (and before it
is published in its final form), it should be cited in other articles
as follows:
Williams TL, Miller AG, Smith, HJ. New findings in signal transduction. Blood. Prepublished June 15, 2002; DOI 10.1182/blood-2001-12-1234.
An article prepublished in First Edition subsequently undergoes the standard production process, which includes copyediting, composition, and proofreading. The edited article is then published in its final form in the first available print and online issue of Blood. At this time, the prepublished version is no longer featured on the HighWire site as a First Edition Paper, but it remains accessible through links in the final version of the online article.
To establish the connection between the First Edition Paper and the
final version of the same paper in the regular print and online
edition of a Blood issue, a reference to the early version will
be made in the editorial notes on the opening page of the printed
article, as follows:
Prepublished online as Blood First
Edition Paper, June 15, 2002; DOI 10.1182/blood-2001-12-1234.
The final version of the paper will have the same DOI as the prepublished version.
Blood's First Edition Papers are fully integrated with the regular issues of Blood Online. If an article prepublished as a First Edition Paper meets search criteria, it will be listed in the search results. The CiteTrack function, which alerts readers whenever content of specific interest to them (as defined by word, subject, or author) is published online, will encompass the content of First Edition
Papers.
